I am a cardiologist and an advanced imaging specialist at Memorial Healthcare System. I care for patients with valvular heart disease and patients with cancer who have developed side effects that impact the heart.

I am board certified in cardiology, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and vascular imaging. A research paper that I authored on the long-term survival of patients with tricuspid regurgitation was incorporated in the guidelines for treatment to help other patients with this condition.

I always knew I wanted to pursue some sort of career in medicine. Growing up in India, there was a lot of suffering, and it was common for people to become very ill or to die from infectious diseases. I knew that when I got older, I wanted to contribute in some way to helping others.

As a cardiologist, I specialize in performing procedures using advanced imaging. It can be difficult to fully comprehend a problem of the heart and be able to fix it without seeing it. Advanced imaging allows us to see an issue and act quickly to fix it. Especially with procedures that involve putting clips and other devices in people’s hearts, we can see an instant change right away and save someone’s life. It’s gratifying to be able to see someone with a problem and offer a solution that will quickly and positively impact their health.

While I love performing procedures, my favorite part of my job is seeing my patients in the clinics. My main goal is always to make sure they are well taken care of, and that all starts with the relationship and trust that develops between us.

In addition to caring for patients, I’m also passionate about teaching. I love mentoring medical students, residents and fellows, and sharing knowledge at conferences through various medical groups. Before joining Memorial, I was a professor and taught for more than a decade at the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

I also create and use 3D printer models to help patients, medical students and other doctors get a better grasp and understanding of how the heart works. With a 3D model, they can see the intricacies of the heart and areas where complications arise, especially with abnormal hearts.

Research

I am actively involved in clinical research, which helps us discover new information and treatments to help people with abnormal heart conditions. My research interests include trials to further explore tricuspid clips, appendage closures and new heart devices.

Many of the trials I have led and participated in have contributed to new treatment guidelines that are now being used to treat patients with various types of heart disease.
