About Me
I am a board-certified medical oncologist at Memorial Cancer Institute, where I specialize in caring for patients with all stages of breast cancer.
My journey to becoming an oncologist started during my early years in medical school when I had the opportunity to rotate in the oncology service and experienced firsthand the impact we, as doctors, could have on patient’s lives. With that in mind, I came to the United States to pursue additional training with the goal of returning to my home country of Brazil and becoming a professor at my medical school.
After completing my residency and fellowship, Hurricane Katrina caused devasting damage in the US, and the New Orleans medical and academic community desperately needed additional physicians to reestablish normalcy. I worked in the area for seven years and served as an assistant professor of medicine, teaching young physicians the art of medical oncology.
I joined Memorial in 2015 and am proud to be part of a growing team revolutionizing cancer care. Memorial also now has a residency and fellowship program training the oncologists of tomorrow, and I enjoy the ability to continue interacting and mentoring new physicians.
At Memorial, we have a comprehensive team all under one roof, which enables us to gather the best minds to consult on your case. One of the most important parts of our daily interactions with patients is providing them with enough information to make well-informed decisions about how they wish to proceed in their care.
I believe breast oncology is one of the most rewarding – if not the most – subspecialty in oncology. We care for women who are often the true pillars of their families and the community. We form lifelong bonds with our patients, and I cherish moments spent with them tremendously. I feel privileged to care for patients during such a difficult time in their lives
