One City at a Time Rolls into Hollywood

January 27 Event, Mobile Health Centers Bring Resources and Services to Underserved Communities
Memorial Healthcare System’s “One City at a Time” program will make its next stop at the Washington Park Community Center (5199 Pembroke Road). A kickoff event January 27 will introduce Hollywood residents to free, health-related resources and services available in the coming months.
The outreach, which includes bringing pediatric and adult mobile health centers to community locations, seeks to improve the health of the uninsured or underinsured, in part, by removing barriers to health and care and making it easier to connect with available resources. It’s all part of Memorial Primary Care’s commitment to proactive health that can prevent or more easily treat chronic conditions before they become a crisis for an individual and his or her family.
The introductory event (10 am - 2 pm) will feature:
- medical exams and screenings
- vaccinations
- nutritional counseling
- Medicaid eligibility and insurance enrollment information
- referrals to social services and specialists
- access to primary care physicians
Attendees will also receive lunch and a healthy food package (first 250 people). The kickoff also includes a job fair, raffles, games, music, and activities for kids.
The One City at a Time program has previously launched in Hallandale Beach and Dania Beach, with Miramar slated to follow Hollywood among south Broward cities.
“We know that not having easy access to care is one of the social determinants that impact a person’s overall health,” said Melida Akiti, Memorial Healthcare System’s chief community officer. “That’s why we’ve made the commitment to have our mobile units on-site at community locations to make it easier for people to care for themselves and their families.”
Following the January 27 event, Memorial will have its mobile teams at the following Hollywood locations three days a week for 12 weeks. No appointment is necessary, and all services are free of charge:
- Tuesdays (9 am - 4 pm): Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center - 2400 Charleston Street
- Wednesdays (10 am - 6 pm): Boulevard Heights Community Center - 6770 Garfield Street
- Thursdays (9 am - 4 pm): Washington Park Community Center - 5199 Pembroke Road
