Bennett to Lead Maternal Fetal Medicine at Memorial Healthcare System
April 11, 2023
Terri-Ann Bennett, MD, a double board-certified and fellowship-trained specialist, has been named chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Memorial Healthcare System. In that role she leads a department that provides care for complex and high-risk pregnancies, labor, and delivery.
Within her specialty, Bennett, a native of Jamaica, and Memorial are focused on addressing disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality that affect people from minoritized communities.
“As physicians, we have an obligation to fix broken systems, overcome racism, and build trust with patients from ethnically-diverse backgrounds. That’s why I joined Memorial, because it’s focused on safety, addresses social determinants of health, helps overcome health disparities, and delivers equitable healthcare,” she said.
Bennett completed residency and fellowship training at NYU Langone Health. She is a graduate of the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine and Blanche Ely High School’s medical magnet program.
Bennett says the maternal-fetal leadership role provides an additional opportunity to positively impact Black and immigrant families beyond the clinical care she provides.
“I understand their background, culture, and am positioned to change how they may view physicians. I strive to show there’s a real person behind the white coat. I want people to feel heard, empowered and cared for by a dream-team of experts that help achieve their pregnancy goals and deliver a safe, supported, and beautiful experience.”
