Memorial Sports Medicine Center Named Provider For University of Fort Lauderdale Athletic Program
August 27, 2021
The Memorial Healthcare System’s Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine has been named the official sports medicine provider for the University of Fort Lauderdale’s athletic department.
Through this new sports medicine partnership, Memorial’s Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine physicians will assist on the sidelines during all the university’s home football games in the event there are any injuries or other health-related concerns. Additionally, injured athletes will be treated in a very timely manner at Memorial’s newly opened Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Center in Cypress Creek near the university. Memorial’s medical staff will also serve as resources to the school’s athletic coaches and trainers.
“We’re eager to work and coordinate with the University of Fort Lauderdale’s athletic department,” says Ray Shipman, director of Business Development and Physician Relations for Memorial’s Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Center. “The university has recently launched a new football program and is also adding many other sports teams. We’re excited to be a part of its growing athletic program.”
Memorial is the first of its kind in Broward County to have a fully comprehensive adult sports medicine program, with orthopaedic surgery, primary care, cardiology, rehabilitation and physical therapy specialists all in one program. Its new Cypress Creek facility opened this past March and features sports medicine physicians as well as patient rehabilitation services. Serving Ft. Lauderdale and surrounding communities, it provides advanced solutions to treat adults with sports injuries, help maintain sports performance, and prevent future injuries.
The University of Fort Lauderdale is a growing four-year university and has joined the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). It has recently added additional athletic teams, bringing the total to 14 for the 2021-22 school year. Chris Chambers, a Pro Bowler and former Miami Dolphin wide receiver, is the inaugural head coach of UFTL’s football program.
