For more than 20 years, Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital have held a distinguished, combined Level 1 state trauma center designation for providing the highest level of care to injured patients.

Recently, the American College of Surgeons conducted an on-site review of each hospital’s trauma program and elevated that verification to national status, making Memorial Regional Hospital’s and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s trauma centers the first in Broward and Palm Beach to hold this national verification for adult Level 1 and pediatric Level 2 trauma care.

Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensures trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeon’s Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual.

“This verification confirms our commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care to all our patients,” said Zeff Ross, Executive Vice President and CEO of Memorial Regional Hospital. “We are equipped to handle even the most critical situations and offer advanced technology and exceptional expertise.”

The Committee on Trauma’s Consultation/Verification Program for Hospital promotes the development of trauma centers in which recognized hospitals provide hospital resources necessary for trauma care, as well as the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients.

This spectrum encompasses the pre-hospital phase through rehabilitation process – a continuum of care that is established at both Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
