PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Memorial Hospital Miramar
The Pharmacy PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Memorial Hospital Miramar (MHM) builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy education and contributes towards the development of a well-rounded clinical pharmacist. Upon successful completion of the residency program, the graduating pharmacist will be eligible for board certification and for PGY2 pharmacy residency training.
The PGY1 Residency Program is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). The residents are integrated into the pharmacy and healthcare team and build upon their didactic and practical experiences to develop expert knowledge in clinical patient care, medication use systems, and administrative areas of pharmacy practice. Additionally, this year will develop their skills in leadership and management, research, project management, and teaching, amongst others. The ultimate goal of the MHM program is to develop residents into clinicians and leaders with the knowledge and experience to become confident and integral members of a healthcare team and the Department of Pharmacy.

- Program duration: 52 weeks
- Stipend: $52,000 with paycheck provided every two weeks

- Must be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.
- Must be eligible for Florida Pharmacist Licensure and a Florida Pharmacy Intern license.

As a pharmacy resident, you are a full-time employee of the department and will be expected to uphold all district-wide policies and procedures.
Licensure Requirements
Florida Pharmacy Intern License: Residents must have a Florida Intern pharmacy license in order to be able to start the residency program.
Florida Pharmacist License: PGY1 Residents must possess a PharmD degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy and be eligible for licensure in the state of Florida. As per policy, residents are encouraged to complete examination for Florida licensure as pharmacist by August 1st following the start of the program. Pharmacy residents must be licensed as Florida Registered Pharmacist by within 90 days of the start of the program. Failure to achieve licensure as a Florida Licensed Pharmacist, will result in dismissal from the program.
Staffing
Residents are required to staff every 3rd weekend (Saturday and Sunday; 8 hour shifts), one evening shift (8 hours) every week, as well as two major holidays.
Residency Research
- Completion and presentation of a residency research project at a clinical meeting
- Completion and presentation of a residency research project at a residency conference
- Completion of a publishable manuscript
Formal Presentations
- Completion and presentation of a Continuing Education lecture for a local, regional, or state program
- Journal Club presentations
- Interdisciplinary Meeting presentations (Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Medication Safety)
Medication Use Evaluation
Presented at appropriate committee(s).
Drug Monograph
For formulary review presented at the appropriate committee(s).
Leadership
Lead multidisciplinary meetings: System Wide Clinical Coordinator Pharmacy Meeting, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Meeting, and more.
Teaching
- Assistance to preceptors in teaching the doctorate of pharmacy students during rotations with the following required activities:
- Direct instruction via topic discussion
- Modeling the role of the pharmacist in the area for which the rotation preceptor serves
- Coaching the student to participate in the management of patients in the area (i.e., make recommendations to the multidisciplinary team during rounds, call physicians with specific recommendations)
