Early Detection Is Best Protection
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in men and women, but a simple, low-dose CT scan is one way to find lung cancer early, when it is treatable. Symptoms may not appear until the cancer is advanced, so preventative screenings are recommended for adults who are at high risk for developing the disease, talk to your doctor about if lung cancer screening is right for you.
Using your insurance instead of self-pay? We recommend you verify with your insurance provider when a lung screening CT scan is covered through your plan. Find the cost of a lung screening CT scan with your insurance plan.
A yearly lung cancer screening is recommended for people who:
Are 50 to 80 years old and in fairly good health,
and
Currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years,
and
Have a 20 pack-year or more smoking history.
A pack-year is smoking an average of one pack of cigarettes per day for one year. For example, a person could have a 20 pack-year history by smoking one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years.
